Modified wrestlers jv or varsity could all be 2 to 4 yrs apart. Almost all tour are 2 yrs. apart. I think it's huge that they have expanded the single year division. But a 2 yr group should be no big deal. Next year if your kid makes jv again he could be 3 yrs apart.

That's funny, WOW. Thank you for the laugh. Last year the venue cost alone was $24,000 and the venue kept concessions. Just an FYI, but again thanks for the laugh.

Looks like nyway was too cheap to individualize 2005 and 2006 age groups which is mostly 5th and 6th graders
They're going to screw over the 2005 kids and put them as a younger group for the second year in a row
Seriously how much does 10 singlets cost compared to all the money they're making on regionals and states
My kid is born in 2005 and the weight classes are different than what he's been wrestling all year as a 2005 what a cluster

Shots fired! Shots fired! Im sure Nyway is making $$$
Everyone is trying to do best by their kids
Thank you for fixing 2006 dob
But he does have a valid point in average wrestler 2005 kids getting a raw deal.
Should be the same as Nyway had kids wrestle all year or separate Varsity experience

I am curious to see if the 2004 lightweight kids will have an option of weight classes. I looked quickly yesterday after I saw this post and it seemed they would have to make a varsity weight class. There are quite a few talented 2004 kids under 95. I could very well have totally missed a caveat.

Why don't you look at the flyer Cael.....every time I see you post you make no sense. Of course they are going to have weight classes under 95 for kids in 2004. Probably should change your name to Caeldoesn'tknow.

pffft. The original flyer wasn't up when I looked again last night but it did not have the 2004 kids delineated into a modified weight scale in it's first incarnation. Not a big deal and they made the correct decision to change the format once it was apparent that it had mistakes. Good on NYWAY. You are slinging a lot of hate for a dude who joined the forum a year ago.

It was a 3 yr age group before flyer was taken down.

We have a 2004 8th grader that spent all year on varsity. And we have 2006 5th and 6th graders that have youth tournament experience but never even stepped on a mat vs a modified wrestler. let alone jv or varsity.

I don't think price was anywhere in the decision as far as divisions go, but I also think $24,000 w/ concessions is a bit outrageous as well. There got to be a better deal out there somewhere.

That is probably why they moved it to Brockport this year.

If it's not broken don't fix it... I believe the way ages/weights have been for the past several years has worked and been fine. The only thing I would change is if a wrestler wrestled varsity during the current year they should be in the HS division. The current changes do not make any sense to me. Every tournament has 2 year division's such as 9/10 ,11/12. Why is NYWAY deviating from this? I have a 2005 6th grader who was on the younger end of the division last year and yeah we were looking forward to this being a good year for him. No where in NY state are 6th graders allowed to wrestle varsity, modifies or JV as a 6th grader ( per NYSPHAA regulatiins) so now at states my son who has wrestled 11/12 at every tournament this year (more than 6 ) now will be in 12/13/14 and will have varsity wrestlers (7th /8th grade varsity wrestlers) off the top of my head I know of 4 that wrestle varsity currently and are my kids weight and will be in his division going by the new 12/13/14... Either way NYWAY has always done a great job in the past I'm sure this year will be no different.

Being a varsity wrestler in 7th or 8th grade does not necessarily mean they belong on varsity. Many of these kids are there to fill a spot and it is not just at the smaller schools. Age based off season wrestling has been the way things have been done for many many years. I personally understand people being bummed or upset about the changes but things change. I agree that the process in the past has been a very good one and I question the change, but let's see how it plays out. But 6th-8th graders in Ohio and Pa (probably other states as well) compete in the Middle School division all the time. Ohio and PA actually have a Middle School state sponsored state championships; they also do not let middle school kids wrestle up on varsity. They also have no 99 lb weight class. The new Division 8 is actually in line with that thinking.

Question I have is this a NUWAY decision....are all states competing in these Divisions? Or is is this unique to NYWAY...I am guessing this is a NUWAY decision but that is just a guess.

Just looked up the NUWAY Nationals age and weight Divisions and they are as they have always been. 2-year age difference all the way through. Don't want to be against new ideas or change...but I have to wonder why NYWAY would make this change if the National Organization has not.

NUWAY Nationals will be held on April 7-8th in Lansing Michigan.

Nuway Nationals has the correct age and weight classes
Nyway States is not consistant with the regular age and weight classes
I'm sure the click club has figured out ways to accommodate themselves
