Well Daniel is ready to start the 2008-2009 season yet at another school.
When we left NY Daniel was at 152, won his first state title in VA at 152 and his second state title at 160. Both of those were at the single “A” class or division, which are schools with a high school (9TH-12TH) population of up to 1,000 kids.
The next class or division is double “AA” which are schools with a high school (9TH-12TH) population of 1,000 to 2,000 kids.
We moved again in July 2008 to get Daniel into a bigger school. He now goes to a triple “AAA” school with a high school (9TH-12TH) population of 2,000 to 3,000 kids. He still is at 160 and will be wrestling at that weight this year. He is currently ranked #1 in the state at that weight.

Our first action of the 2008-2009 season is this weekend 11/29/08 which is a Dual meet tournament with five other schools.
I’ll keep you posted if there still are some of our old Section V friends that are interested.

Daniel is 15-0 now with 13 pins and 2 forfeit. Check out the times on all his pins, only one match going into the second period.

Daniel will most likely get his first loss (or 2) of the year next week at the Beast of the East, but he should also get his 200TH win there. His career record is 197/25 right now.

Ok Guys,
Sorry but I stopped posting because I didn’t think anyone was reading them, didn’t see any reply comments.
ATM 2000 the site where you got the 24-0 record from has not been updated in awhile and it only includes duals not tournaments. So jukeboxhero is correct when he said “The beast absolutely counts on your high school record. It's an in season tournament.”
Here is how it looks like the regular season will end, because our last Quad of the year (Senior Night) just got canceled for tonight due to snow school closing (LOL about 2 inches).
Regular Season Record 52-5 with 39 pins
• Wins
o 32 1st period pins
o 5 2nd period pins
o 2 3rd period pins
o 1 injury default win
o 5 forfeits
o 4 major decisions
o 3 regular decisions
• Losses (Dam PA kids LOL)
o 4-2 overtime to Jesse Shanaman (Blair Academy NJ)
o 2-1 to Tristan Warner (Cumberland PA), which Daniel was winning 1-0 with :03 seconds left to go in the match (boy was I mad)
o 3-1 to James Fleming (West Mifflin PA)
o 3-0 to Corey Lear (Benton PA)
o 15-5 to Kenny Courts (Central Dauphin PA)
Here is a link to a VA forum. There are three pages to this string or topic if you want to read it all.

Districts on 2/7/09
Regional’s on 2/13-14/09
States on 2/20-21/09

I'm glad to hear he's still doing well though. Good luck with everything Mr McGillivray

Awesome stuff. Yeah we still have some jealous idiots up here that don't like to see certain kids outdo the locals. I'm glad to see Dan doing so well. Those kids from Pa. are top notch. I've seen them all wrestle and Kenny Courts is amazing. Courts, Fleming and Lear will all be wrestling for big D1 schools. I watched the interview with Dan and he was very good. Seems like he is doing very well on and off the mat. Thats great.

Well Daniel did it, he became Virginia’s first High School wrestling champion to win a state title in the single “A” division and jump to the triple “AAA” division and win another state title there as well. See link and video below.

Here is another article about the teams’ success.

The one article that mentions Daniel’s record of 55-9 was incorrect; it was 59-5 at the time. He ended the season (regular & post) with a record of 63-5 with 45 pins and his overall high school career record is 245-30 with 177 pins. We’ll keep you posted on college as soon as he makes a decision. He has a few offers out there now but they are way out in the northwest. I’d like to see him stay a little closer to home, at least within a half days drive.
Hope to see you all soon, not sure if we will make it to the Brute Empire Nationals in Rochester but we would not miss the Wellsville tournament for anything.
