Coach said Austin will red shirt:
Senior Mike Galante, the incumbent starter at 165 battled strong true freshman Austin Meys, who weighed in at 174. The match had no meaning in terms of potential starting roles, but Meys used his weight advantage to secure the only takedown of the bout in the second period and added a penalty point and an escape to edge Galante 4-3.

I'm confused. True freshman means that he isn't red shirting? But coach says he is? There are 4 kids that are at the 174 weight class. Like I said, I am confused?

An athlete isnt red shirted until the end of the season. If he goes through the whole year and at the end meets the redshirt criteria then the school will apply for it.

Criteria being what? Edinboro has Tor. Gillespie as red shirting this year. So you can red shirt when ever you want?

That means Edinboro has no plans to use Gillespie this year. And if so, at the end of the year, they may apply for a red shirt for him.

Basically the criteria is you cant represent your team in any competition during the season. NO dual meets. NO tournament in which you score points for your team. If you do then you may not use a red shirt for that season.
