D'ambra was in a tough situation from the beginning by taking over a program that was so successful. Also, a part time teacher in the district. No job security, at any time a full time teacher can take his job away. It sucks for him. Anything less that a team state title and people start questioning his coaching ability. Anyone that takes over the position will be compared to Coach J. for many years to come. It is almost a no win situation....

There is NO requirement to be a full time teacher in the district for a coaching position. Please check out the last football and hockey appointment. And...oh, their success rates.

This is a direct result of Pelin sticking his nose into the program. His precious football and basketball teams have been living under the shadow of the wrestling team for years. With Coach J there, he could do nothing, because Jacoutot as a gym teacher and coach had more "pull" than he ever did as an AD. Since Day 1 on the job, Pelin has been interfering with D'Ambra. Now that he finally has a real reason (I believe it's due to the full time teacher situation), he's getting rid of the man who can lead the program to further success.

Edit: Apparently not due to the full time teaching position issue.

Ah-em - is the last football coach a full time teacher? How about the last hockey coach? If I remember, a full time teacher (that the football kids loved) was overlooked for a non-employee that happened to coach at a district with a good football program. (good, not great)

The football coach was made a full time coach when he came to Spencerport with the hope to build a football team. When he came to Spencerport he tried to mandate his ways and that was a conflict with all other sports. He would. Ot move kids up or play the if they were not at off season workouts. The result was kids quit some were wrestlers and a few 2 year starters. Wow great coaching !! 2years 1 win and a ton of losses. Wait the wrestling team keeps winning
Great job Pelin. Pelin should be evaluated on the success of all sport programs. If you look at all the teams he would has marginal success except for wrestling. Pelin is the one that should be asked to not return next year. That soul save the tax payers a heathy 122,000 dollars a year. I hope the board see what he has not accomplished and what DAmbra has in the short 3 years.

Sounds like you guys out there are really passionate about this coach. From experience I will tell all of you on here who are wrestlers, ex-wrestlers, parents, etc of Spencerport wrestling that if you want this guy to stay, you NEED to keep fighting the administration IN HUGE NUMBERS (if the coach wants to stay). Don't stop at the one board meeting you went to. Go to EVERY ONE. Get more people involved. Use facebook to reach out to any alumni that will help. Have tons of people get up and speak on the coache's behalf. A 100 people could be sitting in a board meeting, but the board has no idea who is for this cause unless you all speak, one by one. Or, have representatives speak and ask everyone who is here for the purpose of keeping the coach stand up and give applause or something. Also, don't waste any time, do it the next board meeting and all board meetings after. Make phone calls, write letters, not one, but dozens to everyone--the board members, superintendent etc. Remember, out of sight, out of mind. These administrators sit and wait till the noise dies down and fades away, then they got their way. Sounds like you guys have a chance--the program is very strong, and there seems to be a lot of passion. If you want this guy there, don't stop fighting it till November, but you need MASSIVE NUMBERS of people who will be present and be vocal.....

Just some advice that comes from experience with administrative decisions that are harmful to the kids in the community. Sadly, this seems to be the new way with many administrators.

Not from Spencerport. Not even from the same side of the county. But that's not necessary. It's childish.

Good advice. And it's not that we are just passionate about the coach, but the program. His participation with the Jr. Rangers has another generation of elementary kids coming up.
The BOE is listening - keep talking!
