My older son has been through the ringer this year with a concussion and a relapse (2nd concussion). I will tell you that non of the specialists we saw were happy with more padding on the head (I bought a similar designed headgear from a different manufacturer). Anyhow the college's doctors, our doctor at home, and a local specialist in concussions warned me that while padding may otherwise help prevent the injury in the first place, it is the movement of the brain within its own fluid that causes the concussion and no amount of padding will help prevent that. The first concussion is bad the subsequent ones are generally where the damage is done, and both your son and mine are at very high risk. It can take a year to fully heal from a concussive event. Stinks, but that's how it is. That headgear is better for kids who don't have a concussion not to get one, less so for our kids.
