I have no idea how the wildcards work. But I thought the number of wildcards given to a section had something to do with how the section places at states the previous year. Can someone enlighten me on the process. Seems Section V D1 should got more than three wildcards.

Wildcard applicants will earn points in four ways:
1-Current season Record: Difference between wins and losses. (A Maximum of 35 points is allowed).
2-Placement Points based on prior year Sectional and State place finishes. (Placement points tables were re-established in 2012-13)
3-Power points based on the past 6 year history of how many place-winners your Section has had at the NYS tournament. The Power point scale will be adjusted on an annual basis to always reflect the most recent six years.
Top 4 Sections: Earn +10, Middle 4: +5, Bottom 4: do not earn any.
(Beginning with 2007-08: the Section’s Highest placer at each weight is the one who earns the Section their points).
4-Competiton Points: 6 pts for defeating a Federation State Champ, 5 points for a runner up, 4 pts for 3rd , 3 pts for 4th , 2 pts for 5th , 1 pt for 6th . Wrestlers earn the points every time they beat a Federation place winner.
5-A Tie-Breaking criteria has been developed if total points are the same.

Here the list of D1 and D2 Sectional qualifiers at every weight. We will have a list of wildcard options for every weight as the week goes on. Stay tuned. http://www.nyway.org/page/show/3947290-new-york-high-school-postseason-powered-by-nyway

Obviously the NYWAY link is just for discussion, but do we have stats on how accurate these predictions usually are? Do the folks updating the NYWAY page have access to official points from each section, or are they scouring section boards and trackwrestling looking for records like the rest of us?

If you have the time, you can figure out most on your own.

The challenge in that is tracking down the records from some of the sections that aren't as centralized as 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10. Eleven lists win/losses on their brackets, but 1, 7, 8, and 9 can be difficult to navigate.

Go to trackwrestling. Search specific wrestlers by name. You can find records.

The NYwrestling site was pretty accurate last year. No guarantees but it gives all of the guys in the top. Look them up on NWCA for more accuracy from that list.
