Linda Knuutila passed away on Thursday, December 20th. She has been the matriarch of Section 6 wrestling for more than 40 years. Year after year, she gave her energy, her love, her patience, her smile, her support and her endless time to the sport that she was devoted to - wrestling. For years, she devoted her time to organizing, planning, preparing and running wrestling tournaments. She would purchase and prepare food for officials and tournament workers, as well as for wrestlers. She worked to start up the Wrestling Review of Western New York. She worked as a member of the Ilio DiPaolo scholarship committee. She was inducted into the Section 6 Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Region 3 Wrestling Hall of Fame and the New York Collegiate Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Her passing has left a huge void in our section that may never be filled. She will always live in our hearts. My fingers cannot type the right words that truly describe or truly explain the depth of our loss and our sorrow. She showed us how to support wrestling. It is now up to us to emulate her.
