My fingers are crossed, but the outlook on having a season is very bleak. Just can't imagine they will let the kids wrestle. I just feel horrible for the seniors.

Take a look at the state wrestling committee meeting minutes they didn’t discuss any of the topics necessary to have practices, dual meets or tournaments. There was some discussion about certifications, but there was no outcome from the discussion other than they will be using the InBody system. After that they adjourned the meeting until January 12.

Here is a list of items thAt the wrestling committee did not discuss:
NOT DISCUSSED
b. Practices:
1. Who is eligible to practice? Are daily temperature checks required?
2. Can everyone wrestle at the same time or must mat space be limited for social distancing?
3. Who is required to wear masks and when?
4. Any new procedures needed for wrestlers to sanitize themselves at the end of practice? Wipes
required? Showering at site required?
5. Weight checking: Does scale need to be sanitized after each wrestler uses it?

c. Dual meets:
1. Will spectators be allowed?
2. Who is eligible to participate? Temp checks required?
3. Can they be broadcast on the internet (Example: TrackWrestling)?
4. What is cost involved for equipment to broadcast (hardware and software)?
5. Any legal issues in broadcasting wrestling events from high schools?
6. Will schools be allowed to travel with 40-50 kids on a bus?
7. What are the socially distancing and mask requirements for weigh-ins?
8. What will be required of officials?
9. What will be the rules for hand shaking?
10. Will teams be allowed to travel out of league or out of Section?
11. Must a database of names and phone numbers of all who attended be maintained to possible
contact if someone became infected?

d. Tournaments: (in addition to the above questions for Dual meets)
1. Will they be allowed?
2. Will there be a maximum on the # of teams or mats?
3. Will all teams be able to weigh in together?
4. Can you attend a tournament anywhere in the state?
5. Can you attend out of state events?

e. Someone tests positive:
1. Who is required to be informed?
2. Who must quarantine and for how long?
3. What must happen for the infected person to return to play?
AJOURNMENT
-Today’s Meeting: Start time: 10:00 a.m. End Time: 3:00 p.m. (5 hrs 00 minutes)
-Next meeting(s): Tuesday January 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.

So I would say NYSPHSAA has no intentions of having a wrestling season in 20/21

Interesting ....for a 6 week season? Not really understanding the logistics....got weight certifications, getting enough practices in before actually competing....how much can you cram in before the next sports season....I'm as excited as the next person, but curious to see how this is all going to work? What are the COVID guidelines that teams must follow? Masks during practices and matches? How are you going to socially distant people on the team bench during a match? Side by side with masks on?

I was excited as anyone for our student-athletes when it was announced that high risk sports could begin Feb 1st. But then I wanted to read exactly what was in the Sports and Recreation Master Guidance that has been kept and updated since Covid-19 first shutdown everything. If interested in reading it the link is below. And on page 5 it has the update for higher risks sports and what will be allowed. I would really like people take on this. As it reads to me (and I am no lawyer) there has been little to no change in the policy. Other than to say we can practice in individual or distanced group training....read below. I am afraid that in the end this will be all to do about nothing and wrestling will not start back up. I would love to hear the opinion of a coach or administrator on this below statement, because as written nothing changes for higher risks sports. Am I crazy????

"Effective February 1, 2021, participants in higher risk sports and recreation activities may partake in
individual or distanced group training and organized no/low-contact group training and, further, may
partake in other types of play, including competitions and tournaments, only as permitted by the
respective local health authorities (i.e., county health departments)."
