Holy Crap! This kid can't compete anymore this year because he competed in a couple college tournies... What was his coach, AD and dad thinking? He is going to Harvard next year, but this violation seemed so easy to not get involved in. Does anyone know any more of the details besides what was stated in Newsday.com?

Quite possibly no one cares - like I said he is going to a great college team next year. I wonder if it effects his college elegibilty?

in an article from last week there is a quote saying
Quote:
"We got a waiver from Section XI and his participation was approved by the state," Don said. "Corey is participating as an unattached wrestler."

i wonder what happened...

It is a shame that they are taking his eligibility away. His father should been leery when the letter he got from the A.D. said" I cannot approve or reject his particapation in this tournament." But it also says that particapation in this tournament will not effect his eligability in any way. If the suspension stands this guy should lose his job. You only have ONE senior year in high school and it looks like his father took every precaution neccesary to avoid this and was screwed.

bottom line is that they broke the rules.

now they think they're above consequences.

nowhere is it in writing that the state said it was okay.

but it is in writing that it isn't okay.

suck it up buttercup. you wanted to work the big boys, and now must pay the price.

they dont think theyre above the rules, read the articles before shooting off like that

he wouldnt have participated had they not allegedly been given clearance, its a quite simple concept thats been ripped around because of a misunderstanding by the AD

BOTTON LINE - his father/coach, with his experience (ESPECIALLY with his experience) , should have known that NY State high school kids are not allowed to compete against COLLEGE kids, unattached or not.

The millisecond anyone mentioned to him the possibility of hs son participating in that tournament he should have just said "no, it's not allowed" and moved on..

ONE person to blame for this, his father/coach. End of story. Period.

Cant support one of your own? Want to be a stickler for the rules? Let me run this by you Mike. The rules say that you can not compete with or PRACTICE with collegiate wrestlers. If I am not mistaken a certain sec 4 wrestler practiced with and at Cornell with college wrestlers while still in high school. He also practiced in the Blair wrestling room in violation of NYSPHSAA rules. Should he be stripped of his state titles because of that? Currently there are pictures on a certain wrestling club website in your area showing some outstanding sec 4 wrestlers on the mat with college wrestlers from Cornell (I would have them deleated from that site as soon as possible before some other kids get hurt). A violation? This whole incident is just the NYSPHSAA once again making shoot from the hip decisions that hurt this sport and the worst part of this is that the wrestling community is not coming together to fight this injustice. I have made repeated calls to the NYSPHSAA in support of Corey on this issue as well as put comments in to them through their website. What have you done Mike? Nothing but come on here and post comments that help divide us. The problem seems to be that if it isnt our kid or a kid from our section that we dont seem to care. I will fight for Corey, or your kid or any wrestler that is being screwed by the NYSPHSAA. The wrestling authority of the NYSPHSAA should be controlled by respected members of the wrestling community and not these cronies that are hurting our kids. We reinstated wrestlers and athletes in all sports that have been caught smoking, drinking, and had brushes with the law after they have done their punisnment. These are kids and we give them second chances. The punishment in this case is way beyond what could be considered reasonable for an honor role student athlete that has never had any trouble if in fact any punishment is warrented. Go on the LIWA site and read Mr Janzens letter to get his perspective on this.

Its time to speak out in defence of one of our own. Contact the NYSPHSAA and let them know that this miscarriage of justice should not stand.

The NYSPHSAA will be hearing an appeal on Wednesday on Corey Janzens eligibility. Call them toll free at 1-866-598-2816 and show your support.

One more little thing to think about for those of you still sitting on the fence on this issue. During Christmas break each year alumni return back to their hometowns. If one stops by your house, your schools wrestling room, or your local wrestling club and that college wrestler shows your kid or your kids team just 1 move or fools on the mat with a wrestler for just a second then per the letter of the rule that wrestler or teams forfits the rest of their high school eligilibity. The rule states that no high school wrestler may compete against or practice with any college wrestler or team. Would you want the NYSPHSAA and Nina Van Erk to rule on your kids eligibility in this case. There actions in this matter would lead one to belive that alot of current wrestlers are in danger of losing their eligibility.

Show some support and stop the nonsense now.

If you do decide to call please be polite and civil. Let them know that you support his reinstatement. That you feel his coach and AD followed the proper procedures and that he should not be punished for miscommunications. Thank you.

All you said is fair enough. I am not saying the rules are right or wrong. I for one have little knowledge of their entire scope and the multitude of reasons they exist in NY State nor why they do or don't exist in some other states.

All I was stating is that I do not think the coach/father did his job (and quite obviously others did not either).

Whether or not the ruling gets reversed, at least it seems that it won't effect his career after high school and his college career and education will be able to continue as if nothing happened.
