I'm still disgusted after reading Sundays (4-28-0 Buffalo News "3 students accused of Hazing" allegations include beating and sex abuse. The article went on to mention that these incidents took place on the (Wilson baseball) team bus and that the coaches may have been aware of what was going down. Pretty pathetic. Will be interesting to find out what the investigation uncovers. Have to wonder how widespread hazing (in school sports programs) really is. Can't imagine being subjected to crap like that to do something you love.

How did that _not_ get classified as child pornography? The feds take a very dim view of that kind of thing.
Locally, we had a situation where this group of three or four kids would take cheap shots at one other kid, and nothing would happen to them. In fact, the adults would either say it didn't happen, or try to minimize the entire thing. But if the targeted kid did anything in return, he got in trouble. They'd suspend him for a match, or some other punishment. Still kind of bugs me when I think of it.

After talking to a parent from Wilson I heard some pretty gross stuff involving cell phones, I'll leave the unsubstantiated details at that. This past week the little darling that was at the root of the harrassment was arrested at 1 am walking through a car dealership in Ransomville with a pocketfull of narcotics. Sounds like a real troubled kid.

There is absolutely no place in high school athletics for hazing. Any coach that allows it should be immediately dismissed and investigated by the school board and/or law enforcement officials. Ignorance is not an excuse either.

It's a matter of degree. Giving noogies to freshmen, or making them run an extra lap or two is one thing. Sodomizing them is another.
The problem is, the people administering the hazing, at least in the more publicized cases, have no clue where the acceptable boundaries are, and push it too far. Since administrations can't say, "It's Ok for you to do this but not that, because it gives the appearance that they're condoning violence - or potential violence - against students, they have to ban it completely.
Kids will always find a way around it, but those who go the extra step and do something truly criminal deserve the harshest punishment the law allows.
