U-E Duals Must GO!

I just have to keep it real here. I have been to U-E Duals numerous times and it's time to tell the truth on the "States Toughest Duals".

Are there good teams there?
YES

And that is where it stops.
This is the worst run dual meet tournament in the worst facility with the worst seatings that I have ever seen. To call this a representation of the State Duals is an embarrassment. Overcrowded seating, the inability to see team scores, match scores, or any score clocks for that matter. Horrible cafeteria facilities and parking so far away that I got frostbite walking into the place. Officiating is so bad you would be better off just having wrestlers call their own take-downs and their own back points kind of like "call your own foul" in pick-me-up-basketball. Which brings me to the final match which the three old gentlement seem to be nice old gentlemen keeping the score and time but someone forgot to check them for a pulse before the match even started. Never have I seen someone screw up the score, the clock, and just general consciousness in my life.

It's time to Upgrade. The only reason teams go is because it holds the biggest power in state rankings. I call on Spencerport to change it. You cannot have a legitimate dual meet tournmanet for the NYS Championship without the participation of Spencerport. Section V should declare the NYS dual meet tournament to be held in Section V. A proper facility to accomodate seating, parking, officials (not from the Batavia Blind School) and score clock keepers who are conscious. Invite the top ten teams that are state ranked and as long as Spencerport attends that meet and not UE it will become the "New State Duals" and count the highest upon the rankings.

U-E has great competition but it must move.

LOL....I must say I agree with a lot of your assessment but, anytime you want to load up the bus with Section V Teams....we can get something in Suffolk. Im sure John Glenn, Longwood , Hauppauge, Rocky Point and Riverhead will make room for any Section V Team.

The officiating in Suffolk is the BEST in NYS.

If LI was interested in wrestling Section V, then they should show up.

UE is nice and central. I don't disagree with the table folks, that was pretty bad. But hey - UE started it, let them keep it. If Spencerport hosted, LI would just have another lame excuse for not showing up (too far away.) Maybe all those wrestlers that move around to be on the 'best' team should move to Spencerport. The 'B' team had some holes this year.

the old man running the scoreboard has been running the scoreboard for many many years. he doesn't do the scoreboard anymore with the exception of at the tournament. one of the guys behind the table was a spencerport kid keeping the score from what i believe.
anywhere you go, when you sit in bleachers, they are going to be uncomfortable.
i dont understand how the food situation was bad. if you were mad that the hot food was a little walk away because they had to have room to cook and space to eat, then thats laziness.
the tournament is run smoothly. i agree that team scores were hard to see, but that goes along with limited space. in any tournament you are going to have limited space and limited view of scores.

this is my favorite...
so how do you know you got a right call and a ref got it wrong when you cant even see the score? i find it very amusing seeing people complain about refs not doing a good job or not seeing a call or whatever. but the thing you gotta understand is refs are human, for the most part, have a better view from where they are than where a spectator is. so before you go bash people, make sure you know what youre looking for.

to tell spencerport to change the tournament and have them hold it is an insult. you do know that before sarge created the tournament many many years ago that there was no state tournament, dont ya? and i find it very hard to believe if nys would hold their own state dual meet tournament. right now, the field the tournament has is strong. it always is. you do not know how teams are picked for the tournament and i assure you that even if you think you do, you dont. some teams chose not to come, some teams didnt get invited. this is the top tournament in the state for a reason.

stop complaining

Ive made the trip down to UE the past 3 yrs and besides the scorboard hicups during the finals i really dont have anything to complain about. Would the tourny be better if it was in a bigger facility....im sure it would but thats like every tounry i can think of. As far as seating ive never had a problem finding a seat and of course they are uncomfortable they are wood bleachers so come prepared. The only thing i wish they would do was announce the time for finals so i know when to be back.

Wrestle 96 - 285 and you might get some more quality teams to compete. Don't assume you can label any team as New York States best team unless you let everyone of your 15 wrestlers compete. Clearly Spencerport is your #1 team in New York State. Not because they won the UE Duals, it's because they are. They've proven it throughout the season. But...reality check time. It's not the UE Duals that makes them the #1 team!!!

And there is still not a State tournament. If you want to have a true state dual tourney, you should have qualifing events just like the individual state tournament. Right now you have teams being picked to attend the UE. How about having teams earn their way there. Each section will be represented and there will be no more arguements. But just like most things in this state change is hard to come by.

I am with you. We need a true State team tourn. Iowa has done this for years. Then there is no this team is ranked one and this team scored the most points in the state tourn. Two teams calling themsleves state team champs. Every other sport does it and many other states do it in wrestling. I think it would be great for the sport.

It would be great to have a NYS dual tourney with a qualifying system within each section. Problem is, the state can't even figure out a fair system for individual qualifiers let alone teams. For the time being it's all we have. Everyone knows you have to be there to be considered so why not try and attend? I know its hard when you're a "one year wonder" type program b/c the season gets under way and then you realize you have a chance but I guess you have to think ahead of time and put it on the line.

The involvement from all over the state has increased, here's someone who hopes that continues. Until NY wakes up (after about 50+ years of sleeping) and gets with the rest of the country and allows multiple qualifiers (not wildcards) and sets up a team state championship, UE is all we have.

like i stated before, i find it hard to believe nys could organize a state dual meet championship. they cant even get the regular state tournament figured out yet.
