This used to be a real thing!!!

Duals Match Ups:

1st: Spencerport v. Fairport/Penfield
3rd: Hilton v. Fairport/Penfield
5th: Brockport v. Brighton
7th: Batavia v. R-H
9th: Greece Olympia v. Pittsford
11th: Greece Arcadia v. Webster Thomas
13th: Churchville-Chili v. Webster Schroeder
15th: gates-Chili v. Irodiquoit

East would take most of these. Eastern Monroe County is too strong this year...

I don't remember when they did this. Was it like an all star team? Like the East West Shrine Game in College Football?? That would be fun to watch.

I was still in highschool (late 80's) and unaware of exactly how they came up with the seedings but basically the best from Monroe county East wrestled the best from the West and so on down the line... There weren't different divisions within Monroe Co. so ER was usually up against Spencerport or Hiton for first place, Brighton v. Hilton or GA or Brockport for third, etc... The duals were run on the same day starting early in the morning with last place teams and building all day up to the highly anticipated first place match up. A one day event a team didn't have to be in attandance for the whole day. Varsity on one mat, JV's on another.

This year I see that Penfield isn't even scheduled to wrestle Spencerport and if they beat Fairport 2/4 that could be the dual that fans won't see! The East West crossover format would garuntee a match like that.

There were 2 divisions, East and west. East/West day or Crossovers, put the last place team in the East against the last place team in the West early in the day. There would be wrestling all day until the final meet which was 1st vs. 1st. They also honored the all-league wrestlers and wrestlers of the year from each league before the last meet. It was actually a pretty cool day and a warmup before Sectionals.

I agree East/West day was a good concept but with the cut back in points, 19, for next year I can't see it starting again. Maximum number of contests are being reduced in all sports across the state.

Although total matches affordable will drop (19? or 20?) next season b/c of $, I wonder if the time has ever been more right. Clearly, in the last couple of years Monroe County has become one of the premier counties in the state (ask LIMarty about the other 2). Who wouldn't want to see some of these match ups? Involve fans from ALL OVER the county and make some serious cash (I think). Have it at RIT and throw 2 matches at once with JV's all day except for the last 2 (for 1st and 3rd). Seriously, with Canandaigua joining Monroe County(?) this would be something worthy (fan wise) of Flowrestling type coverage. Someone post problems with this idea or else get 'er done.

Makes sense to me. Especially since next year the divisions will pretty much be Division I is East and Division II is West (Division III will remain small schools)

I'd rather see a Section 5 Dual Tounament that includes the top 16 or 32 D1 and D2 teams.

I'm not sure what GA, ER and Eastridge would do though...
